The Ladies Singles and Men’s Pairs Championships have both been decided over the last two weeks completing all championship games for 2011.

 

Val Trapp and Lisa Hearl played the semi final of the Ladies 31 up Singles on Sunday 25^th September. Play commenced in conditions good for bowling after overnight rain, with Lisa away to a flying start using the advantage of having the mat to play her favoured long ends. Val was having trouble finding her length, she eventually settled and started to peg back the lead. Lisa however played very steady bowls and went on to a good win. Congratulations Lisa and well done Val to reach the semi final. Thank you to Kevin Chase for marking this match at very short notice.

 

Wednesday October 5^th was finals day when Ria Nieuwland and Lisa Hearl played to decide the Lady Champion for 2011. Play started with both ladies bowling very well, Ria was putting her bowls in close but Lisa managed to keep coming in with her last bowl to take the shot. She was so successful that Ria was not able to score until end six. Ria started to peg back the score until on end 17 she was only one down 15/16, from here on it became a real battle until Lisa surged ahead by the 30^th end with the score at 30/23 she needed only one shot to win. Ria then showed her determination by winning four ends in a row bringing the score to 29/30. Lisa won the next end to become the 2011 Ladies Singles Champion. Congratulations Lisa, it was a great game by both ladies very worthy of a final. Thanks to Rae Wragg for marking.

 

On Sunday 25^th September David Bell and Clive Jackman played Steve Pooley and Kevin Chase Jnr. in the semi final of the Men’s two and walk 21 ends Pairs. This was an entertaining game attracting quite a few spectators. David and Clive were winners with Clive bowling exceptionally well as lead and David playing a good skip’s game. Congratulations to them both on a great game. The weather was threatening with intermittent rain and cold wind on Sunday 9^th October when David and Clive met Kevin Chase Snr. and Hank Haldma in the final of the pairs. It was a very even game there was never more than two shots separating the teams at any stage. After 19 ends and almost four hours the score was 13 all. David and Clive scored one shot on each of the final ends to claim the championship 15/13. Congratulations David Bell and Clive Jackman 2011 Men’s Pairs Champions.
